Check out the Revised Enka Heritage Trail Map
Design and engineering work has, finally, begun on the Enka Heritage trail. Work will resume when a lone remaining landowner signs off on a needed easement along its property.
Note the latest revision of the original trail route (see map) due to hazardous ground contamination on the BASF property. Despite these obstacles, we are optimistic that public support for this project will lead to completion of this terrific opportunity to improve the quality of life in Candler.

Enka Heritage Trail Map
Highlighting history and nearby points of interest, the portion of the Enka Heritage Trail that runs through the Enka Sports Complex acts as an inviting way to extend time spent in the area and an experience unique to Buncombe County. Each storytelling station offers a peek into the Enka community’s past, presented creatively with imaginative examples of public art. The Enka Heritage Trail also acts as a connector to restaurants, retail shops, and tourism businesses located along Smoky Park Highway.
Hominy Creek Priority Corridor 3 miles (3 years)
Support and advocate funding for Three miles of Hominy Creek Priority Corridor. This includes Pool to Sand Hill Road/Franklin School.
This will include:

- Education and outreach presentations to interested parties in our community.
- Applying for public funding from Federal, State or County sources and applying to foundations. It will involve cultivating individual donors and holding events as part of fundraising campaigns for whole amounts or matches to grants.
